Welcome to my Blog: Wear the Word, Walk the Way. I am Heather Busby, and Prophecy is my company. I was thinking about the things that I know really well, and besides what I have a master’s degree in, the two things that I know the best are Jesus and teenagers. So, I want to talk a little bit about the slogan for my company: Wear the Word, Walk the Way. What does it mean to “wear the word”? Well, doll, I can tell you one thing for sure…(pause for emphasis)... this is the very first thing I'm going to lay out there… you’ve got to read your Bible. In order to Wear the Word, you’ve got to read the Word. Yeah… I know, I know. (I already know what you’re thinking.) When I was a teenager, I didn't want to read my Bible… no, I did not. Why? Well, because I was very busy; I was preoccupied with homework, and extra curricular activities, and friends, and boys (or girls). I didn't see the gravity of knowing and learning the Bible at that age. I didn’t understand that in order to know God, I needed to read HIS WORD. So, when my teenager comes to me and talks to me about this, and other teenagers talk to me about this—how they really want to read their Bible, they just don't know where to start, or they are confused by the words in the Bible—this is my advice to you. Teens, one thing that you absolutely need to understand is the GRAVITY, the importance of reading your Bible. I'm going to tell you this…. My relationship with God did not start to become real (as in I can feel him when he’s near, I can hear his voice, I can see him working in my life and know, without a shadow of a doubt, that He’s real, until I started reading his Word. And this is coming from someone who literally grew up in the church. We were there all the time; my mom worked for the church! She was the secretary. We were in all the plays, we were in every youth group, we did Missionettes, we were there for Sunday morning services; you name it, we were there. In all honesty, by the time I was 40, I did not really know the Bible. I mean, I kneeeeeeew (insert hand quotations) the Bible—like the story of David and Goliath, or Samson and Delilah, or Noah's Ark, but did I reeeeeally understand it to where the Holy Spirit just invades my my spirit and I can literally feel the words as BREAD? No, I didn’t. The Bible is the bread of life, and God gave us His Word for our daily bread. So there are two different parts of the body: there's the spirit and the body. You know the body's got to have bread to survive, right? Or an Uncrustable or whatever it is that you choose. But the spirit also needs to be fed. We were created to need God’s presence and to have a close relationship with Him so our spirits can be fed. If we were to deprive our bodies of bread (food), we would look emaciated and pale. This is the same for our spirits. So, even though we may not be able to physically see the condition of our spirits, you can guarantee that if we are not eating our daily bread, our spirits are 100% needing a spa day, okay? She's needing a spa day. So, that's the first thing that is imperative to “wearing the word;” you have got to read your Bible. So instead of saying go touch some grass, I'm going to say go touch some bread, okay? You need your daily bread for the day. If you are a teenager out there struggling, I completely understand. I will also say that, in my life, I have experienced preeeeetty much everything, (maybe we can talk about that someday) but there is nothing like the relationship that you gain with Jesus when you read your Bible. It is Supernatural. There is nothing else like it. Once you start, you won't be able to stop. It's so alive that you will crave that feeling. So don't be discouraged!! I will continue this conversation in my next blog! See you there!!
Love,
Heather
